By the time we get to this latter part of the year, most of the current writing competitions are closed and next year’s haven’t yet opened. So, to make your life a little easier, here is a list of a few links to current writing competitions that are still open for entries in 2018, from September:
The annual award of £10,000 for a distinguished work of fiction, non-fiction or poetry, evoking the spirit of a place.
Sunday Times EFG Short Story Award
The Sunday Times EFG Private Bank Award honours the finest writers of short stories in the UK and Ireland. Worth £30,000 to the winning author, it is open to anyone with a previous record of publication in creative writing in the UK or Ireland.
The annual prize of £1,000 goes to the best unpublished short story of the year. The winning entry is also published in Prospect Magazine and the RSL Review.
Enter a poem, short story or first person essay on the theme of “My education helped me….”.
